News Gibson announce new collaboration with Jimmy Page

During the Gibson Garage launch in London on February 22nd, Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian announced a new collaboration with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page. The partnership will see them mass-produce Page’s iconic red double-necked guitar.

There is no set date for the release of the guitar, but Gueikian assured those in attendance that it would be available to purchase in March. In purchasing, guitarists will receive a replica of the iconic model, which even includes the same wear and tear as Page’s cherished item.

Gueikian said Gibson made the guitar as close to the original as possible, citing Page as a defining influence upon the history of music. “You can’t think of him without picturing him with a Les Paul or double neck,” he remarked.

Furthermore, Page expressed his excited to collaborate with Gibson, praising their final product and Gueikian’s enthusiasm. “He was a visionary. He meant what he was saying,” the guitarist commented.

To stay faithful to the famous instrument, Gueikian and the Gibson team went to Page’s home and took scans of the original. The CEO described the process as an MRI, complementing the modern technology that Gibson has access to. He also reflected on the moment that Page handed the original guitar over to him, where he said, “No ‘Stairway to Heaven.’”

When Page initially acquired the double-neck, it was out of commission. The musician had recently written ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and knew he needed a model for the live shows where he could play the fragile acoustic parts and the rock-heavy solo. Gibson built him a double neck, and it became an invaluable asset to Led Zeppelin’s sound.

More news on the release date of the Jimmy Page collaboration with Gibson will follow at a later date.
