2Pac Is Back On The Billboard Charts

It’s been decades since 2Pac was killed in 1996, but if anything, his status as a pioneer and one of the most important musicians in rap has only increased since then. He remains an incredibly important and beloved figure in the music industry, and his fan base is still massive. 2Pac is so popular that he’s back on several Billboard charts this week with one of his most popular efforts.

This week, 2Pac sees his Greatest Hits set return to a pair of Billboard charts. The title had not been present recently, as it was pushed out by Christmas projects, which return to popularity every year in December. Now that the holiday is over, beloved collections like 2Pac’s can break back onto rankings they are usually found on.

2Pac’s Greatest Hits is back on the Billboard 200 this week, coming in at No. 111. The set moved just under 9,700 equivalent units in the past tracking period, according to Luminate.

That sum is made up largely of streaming activity, as the rapper’s Greatest Hits remains a must-play for any rap fan. The compilation only sold 180 copies last frame, so while sales do play their part, 2Pac’s success on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music is largely to thank for this comeback of sorts.

As his Greatest Hits reappears on the Billboard 200–the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S.—it also breaks back onto another, more specific list as well. The compilation can also be found on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. On that list, the project returns at No. 43 on the 50-spot tally.

On the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, 2Pac earns the fifth-loftiest return this week. He comes in behind popular projects from artists like The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Frank Ocean, and Drake. On the Billboard 200, his Greatest Hits is the sixth-highest-ranking return of the frame. That tally includes many more comebacks, as several dozen titles are back on the list.
