Music Paul McCartney Is Bounding Up The Billboard Charts With A Decades-Old Album

Paul McCartney hasn’t released a new album of original material in several years, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still find a space on the Billboard charts. Fans are flocking to one of his oldest solo collections, pushing back up the weekly rankings and turning it into something of a surprise smash once again.

The former Beatle’s solo album McCartney II has been climbing on the Billboard charts for a few weeks now, but this frame, its performance is especially impressive. The title is gaining significantly on a handful of tallies, which is especially notable, considering the fact that it’s been out for decades, and the vast majority of his followers likely already own a copy of the set.

McCartney II is up to No. 91 on the Billboard 200 this week. That might not sound like a particularly lofty space, but the title is up considerably from last time around. McCartney’s solo offering jumps more than 81 spaces, as last frame it was down at No. 173.

In the past tracking period, McCartney II moved another 13,863 equivalent units in the U.S., according to information shared by Luminate. The set wasn’t a powerful seller, but it racked up millions of streams across platforms, and all that activity has helped the title rise once again.

McCartney II is back inside the top 20 on both of Billboard’s rock-oriented albums charts as well. The set surges up the Top Rock & Alternative Albums ranking, lifting from No. 44 to No. 16.

On the more-specific Top Rock Albums tally, McCartney II actually reappears after not being present last time around. The list is significantly shorter than the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, so it makes sense that if it was at No. 44 on one last time around, it couldn’t break onto the smaller, more competitive list. Now, it’s returned at No. 12 on the Top Rock Albums roster.
