Dave Grohl draws “DIY Beer Bong” diagrams for a charity auction

Music Dave Grohl draws “DIY Beer Bong” diagrams for a charity auction.

Drummer, guitarist, singer, all-around nice guy and now artist Dave Grohl has put together two hand-drawn diagrams that show how to smuggle hash and how to make a beer bong out of everyday items. The two diagrams are set to sell at a charity auction and are estimated to make around $11,000.

Grohl was asked earlier in 2023 whether he could bring two works of art to the Sea.Hear.Now festival to be auctioned off. He happily agreed but was delayed in gathering the pieces so much that the doodles were put together in a last-minute effort to avoid turning up with nothing.

As a lifelong rockstar, Grohl has had his fair share of beer-chugging moments and is more than capable of smuggling hash… or similar substances… into festivals. As such, buyers know that as well as a work of art, they will pick up genuine tips.

“We used to make these diagrams for runners backstage at shows,” said Grohl, “[We’d tell them] ‘go to Home Depot and get this shit’, they would literally get it and screw it together before we played.”

The items are currently up for auction and are both doing well. The ‘DIY Beer Bong’ diagram is selling for $6501, while the ‘How to Sneak Hash into a Concert’ is at $5100. All of the proceeds are going towards local Asbury Park charities.

Festival organiser Danny Clinch wrote about Grohl in a statement, saying he was excited to make art for the cause but arrived empty-handed, “He arrived at the festival with a Sharpie and ready to make art,” he said, “As we were looking for some poster board for his art, a runner came back with some ‘Prohibited Items’ corro board signage from the festival fences”.
