The Rolling Stones announce ‘Hackney Diamonds’ live album

The Rolling Stones‘ self-titled debut album was released almost 60 years ago, but their recent album Hackney Diamond proves they are still going strong. The LP was released in October and now, the group have announced plans for a new edition.

Hackney Diamonds was well-received by both critics and fans alike. From the initial kick drum that is seen in the first track, ‘Angry’, to the final blow of a harmonica that sees out ‘Rolling Stone Blues’, the band show they still have the Midas touch with the album landing at number one in 14 different countries.

The Rolling Stones have now revealed they will be releasing a live version of the album. All songs were recorded during a surprise gig they performed in New York’s Racket Club on October 19th and featured appearances by special guests.

The record will contain songs both new and old as their brief set consisted of tracks from both Hackney Diamonds but also featured classics such as ‘Shattered’ and ‘Jumping Jack Flash’.

A real treat will be the encore, Lady Gaga joined the band on stage to perform a rendition of ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’. The American singer is gifted with one of the greatest voices in modern music, so to hear her accompany Jagger on this track makes for appointment listening.

The announcement of the new live album comes alongside The Rolling Stones confirming a tour of North America in 2024. As of yet, the legendary group has yet to share plans to tour Europe and the United Kingdom.

In a three-star review, Far Out wrote of Hackney Diamonds: “It’s impossible not to get a kick out of these elder statesmen of rock and roll putting their best collective foot forward to see what remains of their creativity. You can call Hackney Diamonds whatever you want, but you have to call it a success.”
