Mick Jagger hints he may be ready to embrace old age

He has always prided himself on his virility and zest for life.

But Mick Jagger may have given a subtle clue that he is ready to embrace old age by allowing America’s biggest organisation for the elderly to sponsor the Rolling Stones’ upcoming tour.

This week Jagger, 80, Ronnie Wood, 76, and Keith Richards, 79, announced a 16-city North American tour to promote their new album Hackney Diamonds, sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons.

A source close to the father of eight – who sang ‘What a drag it is getting old’ in the hit Mother’s Little Helper – said: ‘Mick has always rebelled against aging but everyone has embraced AARP sponsoring the upcoming tour. It’s a deal worth millions but it has also made everyone smile.

‘The AARP logo is front and centre on all the advertising. Mick is finally ready to embrace the fact he’s a pensioner. In fact he’s proud of it.’

The AARP is the world’s largest non-profit organisation aimed at helping the elderly, with the motto: ‘Choose how to live as you age’. Membership is open to anyone over 50, although the majority of its 38 million members are 65 and older.

Jagger, who exercises for an hour every day and rarely drinks alcohol, has suffered just one major health crisis – a heart valve replacement in 2019.

The tour, which starts in April, marks the 60th anniversary of the Stones’ first US tour in 1964.
